Purpose:

Light passenger work. This class was fitted with 'push-pull' equipment, enabling it to propel special coaches with connections so that the driver could operate the locomotive from the front of the coach, when the engine was pushing. This engine was local - based at Gloucester, it operated the last push-pull 'Chalford Shuttle' service between Gloucester and Chalford in 1962. No. 6412 has been a regular visitor to the GWR over the past two years.
