Diesels to run on over 50 days during 2004

The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway’s Diesel Department is pleased to announce the days on which its impressive fleet of preserved ex main locomotives will be running during 2004.

Utilising no less than seven locomotives, the ‘Diesel Season’ will kick off with a three day Gala from Friday 12th March to Sunday 14th March, with other Galas planned for the weekends of 16th & 17th October and 27th & 28th November plus Monday 27th December. The locomotives expected to appear on these days will be Class 14 No. D9539, Class 20 No. D8137, Class 24 No. 24081, Class 37’s No’s 37215 & 37324 and Class 47’s No’s 47105 & 47376.

In addition to the Galas, a diesel locomotive will haul the 16:00 departure from Toddington on most of the railway’s off peak service days and will haul all services on every Friday during August. All of our services run through the beautiful Cotswold countryside from Toddington to Cheltenham Racecourse Station, with Toddington station being located 100 metres from the junction of the B4632 and B4077 roads and 6 miles from junction 9 of the M5. Cheltenham Racecourse Station can also be accessed through the main entrance to the Racecourse.

The railway provides catering facilities through the ‘Flag & Whistle’ Tea Rooms at Toddington or from our on train buffet cars. Additionally, there are picnic facilities at Winchcombe Station, mid-way between Toddington and Cheltenham. The ticket arrangements allow for all day travel for those purchasing round trip tickets, with adult, child, senior citizen and family tickets all being available.

With beautifully restored Diesel Locomotives running all the services during the Gala days and Fridays in August and Steam Engines also hauling services on the ‘off peak’ days, enthusiasts and families can enjoy a great deal of variety at ‘The Friendly Line in the Cotswolds’.
