KIDS GO FREE ON THE GWR!
The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway – which runs from Cheltenham Racecourse to
Toddington – starts its 2007 season this weekend (3rd March) with a special offer: children go free!
During the whole of March, every adult or senior citizen can claim a free ticket (worth £6.00) for an
accompanied child aged between five and 15. It’s as simple as that!
Explains the GWR’s Ian Crowder: “We want to encourage families to come and enjoy a ride on their historic
local railway. Families are so used to travelling by car these days so a trip on a train – especially a steam train – is a really memorable experience.
“Back in the days of steam, family cars weren’t as reliable as they are
today and the motorways were a thing of the future. Everyone used the railways.”
The offer is available from of the GWR’s booking offices at Cheltenham, Winchcombe and
Toddington. “There’s no need to book in advance, just turn up on the day of travel and ask for a free child ticket for each adult or senior citizen ticket bought.”
Visitors can choose a steam or diesel-hauled train, too: the GWR is, during March, running three return steam
and three return diesel trains on each weekend of March, except for 30th March to 1st April which is when all of the line’s diesels will be in action for a special diesel gala.
Says Ian Crowder: “The GWR’s tickets allow for unlimited travel on the day of
issue – so you can take as many trips as you like – so why not try both diesel and steam?”
The normal adult fare for the whole length of the line is £10.00 adults; £8.50 for children. Visit for train times and information on which trains are steam and diesel.
