In its most basic form it is a long handled crowbar. The
one shown in the photograph above is a more sophisticated version. It is placed under the wheel then pushed down as illustrated in the second photograph. When the bar is depressed the rectangular piece in the
middle lifts and tries to ‘jack up’ the wheel. As this can’t happen the wheel moves forward a few inches.
Once the vehicle is moving it is possible for 4 or 5 people to keep up the momentum and put the coach or wagon in its intended position.
