City class 4-4-0 no. 3440 City of Truro is off on its travels again, acting as an ambassador for its owner, the National Railway Museum, and for the GWR where it is cared for. 'Truro' first goes to the Barrow Hill Roundhouse near Chesterfield where it is taking part in the 'Rail Power 2008' event from 22nd to 25th August.  The engine then moves on to the Severn Valley Railway where it will stay for a few weeks, and will participate in the SVR's Autumn Steam Gala from 19th to 21st September. Finally, the engine visits the Great Central Railway at Loughborough before returning to the GWR in time for the Christmas season. 'Truro' will certainly be missed but the engine is one of the nation's most important historic railway assets as it was the first man-made machine to be recorded travelling at over 100mph, way back in 1904 when it was new. So it is right that it can be enjoyed by visitors to other heritage railways.
