Spitfire grounded but the No. 6 for Trafalgar Square arrives early!

Visitors to the GWR's
successful Diesel Gala over the weekend were disappointed on
Saturday evening when the advertised Spitfire flypast from the
Battle of Britain Memorial Flight failed to materialise. As those
who were at Toddington will be only too well aware, as the
afternoon progressed the weather deteriorated, the wind got up and
eventually there was a message from BBMF Flight Control to say that
the aircraft was grounded. But during the day, a number 6
Routemaster bus for Trafalgar Square (if the destination was to be
believed) rolled into the yard - many miles off course but the
first of the dozens of vehicles to arrive for the following day's
Bus Rally.
On Sunday morning, the
day dawned grey and damp - but that didn't dampen the spirits of
the 40 buses of all shapes and sizes that descended on Toddington
station yard. The day soon perked up and there was a good crowd
with queues at the station booking office for rides on the
intensive diesel train service while the trips to Broadway on a
variety of classic buses was a real hit. There's little doubt that
this will become a regular in the calendar. More news and
photographs will, doubtless, follow!
