David Shepherd's locomotive Black Prince left the GWR on Monday
- but only for a short time. It is taking part in the East Somerset
Railway's 'Quarry Weekend' at the nearby Merehead Quarry, when the
engine will be accompanied by the Churnet Valley Railway's S160
2-8-0 no. 5197 and Hall class no. 4963 Kinlet Hall, amongst others.
The event runs over the weekend of 21st and 22nd June and
commemorates 150 years since the opening of the East Somerset
Railway between Witham and Shepton Mallet. The railway has joined
forces with Mendip Rail to put on a spectacular celebration which
includes the 9F doing what it was designed to do - hauling heavy
mineral trains. The event runs over the weekend of 21st and
22nd June and the 9F then goes on to Cranmore for two weekends
before returning to the GWR.
