Artist, conservationist and owner of locomotive 92203 Black
Prince on the GWR, was made Commander of the British Empire (CBE)
in the Queen's Birthday Honours.
David, who lives near East Grinstead, becomes a CBE for services
to charity and wildlife conservation. He is, of course, best
known for his wildlife paintings, particularly elephants, steam
locomotives, aircraft and landscapes. Many of his paintings
were displayed at the Wildlife and Steam on Tour event at the GWR
in April, when he also spoke to a packed audience at Toddington
about his life as an artist and his passionate work, through the
David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation, to help save endangered animal
species the world over.
That show raised over £18,000 towards the work of the Foundation
and, at the launch of a short exhibition at the Mall Galleries in
London on 24th June, David was able to announce that the Foundation
has to date, raised over £4m. The occasion was the
Foundation-sponsored Wildlife Artist of the Year and Three
Generations exhibitions, the latter featuring mainly wildlife
paintings by David, his daughter Mandy and grand-daughter
Emily. The show closes on Saturday 28th June.
The CBE earned by David is added to his existing MBE.
