The Cotswolds is a fantastic area to spend a Bank Holiday and if you're looking for great value for money, buy a combined family ticket to gain admission to stunning Sudeley Castle at Winchcombe as well as a ride on the Honeybourne Line! The Winchcombe Country Show is also happening on Bank Holiday Monday - just a short walk from the railway's Winchcombe station.

On Saturday 15th August, over 60 visitors gathered at Cheltenham Race Course Station on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway to support the charity Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres.

There was a real party atmosphere at the GWR on Thursday 20th August as David Shepherd celebrated the 50th birthday of his ‘baby’, 140-ton steam locomotive Black Prince.

Laverton gap soon to be closed

The ‘missing bridge’ at Laverton is at last about to be replaced following granting of planning permission for a new structure, which both opens the way for completion of the Honeybourne Line extension to the site of Laverton Halt and continuing onwards to Broadway.

Limited Edition Black Prince in ‘N’ gauge

An extraordinarily well-detailed N-gauge model of David Shepherd’s 9F 2-10-0 Black Prince, will be launched at Toddington station on the GWR, on Thursday 20th August. The event is part of celebrations to mark the 50th birthday of the full-size locomotive, with will be in steam all day at Toddington, in the company of its artist and wildlife conservationist owner.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight are coming back to the sky over Toddington – and this time, it is in earnest. After and fantastic fly-past of the lone Spitfire on an amazing day on 8th August, the Spitfire is coming back on Thursday 20th August – but this time, with a Hurricane fighter and Lancaster bomber. And it’s all to celebrate the 50th Birthday of David Shepherd’s 9F class 2-10-0 no. 92203, Black Prince.

Saturday 8th August was an extraordinary day for the GWR. It involved Black Prince, its owner David Shepherd, a Second World War Spifire fighter and – of all things – a Russian film crew. Oh, and a memory of the last BR train hauled by Black Prince, with a youthful David Shepherd on the footplate…

The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway has started planning for the biggest event it has yet staged – and what promises to be the leading event in Britain to mark the 175th Anniversary of the Great Western Railway next year. It is working with STEAM, the Great Western Railway museum at Swindon which is co-ordinating activity to celebrate this vital anniversary.
