THIEVES TARGET £4,000 GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY BENCH CASTINGS FROM CHELTENHAM RACECOURSE STATION
posted on 22/09/2010
A £4,000 theft of Great Western Railway cast-iron bench ends from Cheltenham Racecourse station has left the platform bereft of period seating. The thieves are believed to have specifically targeted these castings, some of which are original and others replicas and are worth around £200 each. The thieves took care to dismantle the seats and unbolt the 25kg castings from the platform and the entirely volunteer-run railway is looking for help to find the thieves.

Work begins at Gotherington with new drainage works
posted on 13/09/2010
Drainage is something that most people don’t give a second thought to – until it goes wrong. For the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, it is very much top-of-mind as the way water drains off the Cotswolds was a contributing factor in the embankment collapse at Gotherington. Work is now underway to install a new drainage system on the Cotswold side of the embankment.
