The Broadway Area Group, which has set about the task of rebuilding Broadway station on the site of the original, has come to an imaginative arrangement with Worcester College Construction Centre of Excellence, to provide practical building experience for students.

The training project will continue every Wednesday for the forseeable future (except during holdiays).

Bill Britton, chairman of the Broadway Area Group explained: "We felt that second-year students would benefit from this practical experience as well as giving them a sense of achievement in helping to rebuild a railway station.

"They learn from the experience and we gain from their practical work.

"The students attended a safety course run by Health and Safety officer Chris Stockman, be fore getting stuck in."

Bill says that the regular Broadway Area Group team, which includes including experienced bricklayers, have been impressed with their skills.  "A good number of blocks and facing bricks are being laid and it has helped to accellerate the construction of the platform," he added.

"We are absolutely delighted to be helping students gain practical experience in this way - it's is a great way for foging a lasting relationship with the College, through their tutor, Martyn Saunders, too.

"I'm sure that in years to come they will look at the finished station with pride, knowing they played a part in making local history!"
