Rain doesn’t stop play for first train to Laverton

Recalling the last scheduled passenger trains of the 1970s over the Honeybourne Line, a diesel multiple unit departed from Toddington, through the drizzle to Laverton on Wednesday 30th March. But the rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the press and TV who enjoyed the 1960s experience as the train crossed Stanway viaduct and continued its journey north.

More information is available about the Gr8 Escape gala on 9th and 10th April, which is being organized by the Great Central Railway, especially for the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway’s Emergency Appeal.
Tension builds for Laverton…

Over the coming week (14th March), contractors will be visiting the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway to work with the railway’s volunteer Permanent Way Department, to carry out rail tensioning on the 2km section of continuously welded rail north of Stanway viaduct.

Over the weekend of 12th and 13th March, Toddington locomotive depot was a hive of activity as the railway’s two 2-8-0 locomotives were being prepared to be moved by road to Winchcombe - but via the Great Central Railway at Loughborough.

The Great Central Railway – Britain’s only double-track main line heritage railway – is putting on a spectacular special event in aid of the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway’s Emergency Appeal, brought about by two major landslips and a heavy financial losses following the extreme winter which brought Christmas trains to a halt.
