Nestling on the edge of the Cotswold Hills is the
Gloucestershire village of Toddington. Just five minutes from
Broadway, minutes away from Gloucester and Cheltenham, less than an
hour from Birmingham, Coventry and Oxford, this tiny hamlet is a
hive of activity. A group of enthusiastic volunteers are restoring
the past. From a once barren trackbed, miles of railway have
reappeared. From an empty, once lifeless and vandalised station
building, a well-stocked shop and information centre have been
created. Platforms, which were demolished over twenty years ago,
have been rebuilt. Buildings have been moved from other sites to be
carefully reconstructed as replacements for those that have gone
forever.
Members of the GWRT have achieved all of this since 1981. Not
only have they recreated the railway the way it can be seen today,
but they also operate the railway. Volunteers carry out all tasks
from Engine Driver to Station Cleaner. Membership and donations,
together with various fund raising activities, have paid for much
of the materials used in this work. If you would like to know more
about this exciting project and perhaps help to maintain the high
level of achievement, then why not join us and become a member of
GWRT?
