School Reports

We have received these comments from teachers following their visits to our Railway:

Reception and Year 1

Thank you so much for a fantastic day yesterday, we all had a wonderful time! The children have been talking about the trip non-stop today and want to know when we are going back! The teachers we were so impressed with the organisation and enthusiasm of all the staff, you really helped the day to run very smoothly. We will have no hesitation in recommending you to other schools!

Just wanted to drop you a line to say a big thank you for all your helping organising today's trip. We couldn't have wished for a more successful day, we all had such a lovely day; everything was so relaxed and was at our pace. All the volunteers were so accommodating and helpful. It is definitely something we would like to do again around this time of year with reception and with other year groups too I shouldn't wonder, the way we've been raving about it! I turned your images into a simple spotting sheet which worked well with the children.

Just to let you know that we had a wonderful time yesterday. Please can you pass on our thanks to all the volunteers who were there on the day and were so welcoming and helpful. We did give the loudest "thank you" shout that we could manage on the platform - hopefully everyone at Winchcombe heard it but, loud as it was, it may not have reached Cheltenham! The children were full of their trip yesterday and still raving about it this morning.

Thank you so much for a super day today. The children had a wonderful time and were very excited to tell their parents about their day. We were really surprised that it was the first train experience for so many of the children! Please can you pass on all our thanks to the fabulous volunteers who made the day so special.

Year 2. Just a quick note to say how much the children have enjoyed themselves today; they are sitting as I write with Rachel listening to the next instalment of The Railway Children; tired but happy! Thank you for helping with the organisation and I hope we will be back next year.

Years 3 & 4

Thank you for all your hard work and organisation today.  Both classes had an amazing time and I know they will remember their day for a long time to come.  The activities were excellent and all your voluntary staff so helpful and knowledgeable.  We will definitely recommend GWSR to our cluster schools and hope to visit you again in the future.

I am writing to thank you for putting such a lot of effort into our visit last week. Despite the atrocious weather, the children had a day they will never forget, they had such an interesting time and haven't stopped talking about it since. Annoyingly the days have been wonderfully sunny since we came, we really did pick the worst day possible! Anyway, all the best for the rest of the term and hopefully we will be back sometime next year with the new lot. Please pass on my thanks to all the other people who made the day so special for the children.

First School. We had an absaloutely wonderful time. Both Key Stages thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it was very well organised. Many thanks for a lovely day.

Year 10. I just wanted to say a massive thank you for all your help arranging our trip today. The students enjoyed it and we did do some good writing at the end of the day. I think it was such a great opportunity for them and they had so many questions for the signal man and the coach builders, which shows their interest. Please would you pass on our thanks to all of the staff who were so helpful and took a lot of the organisation out of my hands.

Special School. Just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone that helped us yesterday. My class had a fantastic time on the train and really enjoyed themselves. The gentlemen on the train were extremely friendly and couldn't of been more helpful - please pass on our thanks.

Special Needs Unit. I just wanted to say thanks for Thursday. The feedback from students (and staff) was that it was the best day out they had had at college. So thanks very much for all your efforts.

WWII and Teddy Bears

Thank you for two fantastic days on the GWSR. All of our pupils gained a great deal of knowledge and understanding of life during WWII and our younger pupils thoroughly enjoyed their Teddy Bear picnic. All of the volunteers were extremely helpful and welcoming.

Key Stage 2 - WW II Evacuee

We'd like to thank everyone involved with our 'evacuee experience' trips, both 'front-of-house' and 'backroom' staff! We're all in agreement that these were the best trips we've ever done! There was so much happening all the time, and the children were learning throughout. Once again, many thanks for making all the arrangements. We'll definitely be back!

Thank you for a marvellous day today at Toddington & Winchcombe. Please pass on our thanks to 'Farmer Wells' and the whole team (especially the very lovely evacuees from the train). Every detail brought the experience to life for the children and they learnt a great deal.

On behalf of myself, my colleagues and the children, please can you thank your brilliant team. They were so knowledgeable and pitched their infomation so well in such an accessible way for the children.

We were very impressed with the whole day. We felt that it was organised very well, and the day was jam-packed with a fantastic range of activities and little 'extras' that really made it enjoyable.

The children gained an awful lot in terms of learning and enjoyment.  I would recommend this to any school.

Many thanks again.

Thank you for organising a wonderful day for our junior school yesterday. It was a magical experience and the pupils learnt so much about evacuation and the experiences of WWII. It will certainly be a trip the pupils will remember for ever.

Please could you pencil us in for the same time next year as this is such a valuable school trip.

I would just like to say a huge thank you on behalf of the staff and the children in my class for such an outstanding day as World War 2 evacuees on Thursday. The children cannot stop talking about their day and, as a teacher of ten years, this was the best school trip I have taken children on. The activities were very well organised, with no waiting around, and also very hands on. All the volunteers who led the day had an excellent rapport with the children, ensuring they listened as well as had fun. I will definitely be recommending the day to other teachers. Thank you again.

I would just like to thank you for a wonderful experience today.  The children have thoroughly enjoyed it, as did the adults.  It was very well organised and the activities tied in beautifully with what we have covered in school, but providing hands on experience.  I would recommend anyone doing this topic to do this trip.

We had such a fantastic day - I thought the visit was so well organised with so many different, exciting elements to the day! The children loved dressing up; many of them said it was the best school trip ever so I have received Brownie points too for booking in the first place!

I have recommended the trip to many of my teaching friends too as we were so impressed!

Thank you so much for having us and for allowing us to climb aboard the engine of the train - a real highlight for some of our boys! All the volunteers were so enthusiastic and welcoming, from yourself to the sing-along stars on the train to Stella and Maurice - who really captured the children's imaginations with their stories.

Thank you again - even if we do not cover the World War 2 topic next year, I would love to bring my new class of Year 5s anyway as I am sure they would be fascinated.

Thank you for a marvellous day today at Toddington & Winchcombe. Please pass on our thanks to 'Farmer Wells' and the whole team (especially the very lovely evacuees from the train). Every detail brought the experience to life for the children and they learnt a great deal.

I wanted to take the time to say how fantastic the World War ll Evacuation Experience was for our mixed Y5/Y6 children from our Primary School.  Please would you pass on how impressed we all were by the structure of the day and the enthusiasm, friendliness and professionalism of all those who were involved in bringing the experience alive. It was a truly special day and one which we will never forget. We will definitely make this trip part of our curriculum studies in the future.

Just wanted to write a quick email to express our delight at the fantastic day to Winchcombe our children experienced on Tuesday. It was the best school trip I've ever been on and the children had an absolute ball. Please could you pass on our heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers involved? We really appreciated their time, expertise and enthusiasm.

I must say I was over the moon with the Evacuee Experience! It was the first time we have done this trip as a school and we certainly hope to repeat it. We are very lucky to have this opportunity on our doorstep. The children and staff had a great day out and it has really set the scene for our topic this term. The children are really enthused about it. All of the activities organised for us were great and we were kept busy for the whole time. Our guide, Farmer Wells was great with the children, and really entered into the spirit of his role! Our thanks go to both him and all the other volunteers that helped our school on the day. In particular, please pass on our thanks to Maurice and Mollie, who were kind enough to share their own experiences with us. Thanks also to the 'Firefighter', the musicians and guards on the train and stations, and dare I say it, even the German spy! It really was a memorable day out, one that I know the children will treasure for a long time. We really do appreciate the time and effort that you have all put into creating some 'living history' for us.
