The national VE Day 75 community celebrations co-ordinator has provided the following advice: '... the terrible Coronavirus emergency and consequent Government guidance means that we must advise participants to cancel or postpone the majority of the VE Day 75 community celebrations due to take place on the bank holiday weekend of 8th – 10th May’. Following this announcement we have cancelled our 75th Anniversary of VE Day event.
In line with the Government moving the Early May Bank Holiday to Friday, 8 May 2020 to coincide with Victory in Europe Day, or VE Day, which marks the 75th anniversary of the formal end of World War II, the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway will be joining in with the commemorative events across the country.
We will be operating trains along our 14.5 miles of track on Friday 8 May and we plan to have:
- headboard for one of our steam trains
- bunting and a 40's style café experience at the Toddington Flag and Whistle cafe, with some 1940's options on the menu and staff dressed up appropriately.
Why not join us to commemorate 75 years since Victory in Europe.
