Over the weekends of 3rd / 4th June and 10th / 11th June we will be replacing our normal diesel railcar service on the red timetable with a steam-worked autotrain using locomotive No. 1450 and auto-coach No. W238, named 'Chaffinch'. These push-pull trains were the backbone of the stopping passenger services on our line for many years. Nicknamed the 'Coffeepot' they are still remembered by many local residents who used to travel to and from school on them. W238 has been on our line before - more than 57 years ago when it was used on the local Cheltenham St. James (where Waitrose is now) to Honeybourne service. You can read more about 1450 and the auto-coach in our special feature.
There will be no extra charge to travel on the autotrain but space is very limited - 64 seats in total - and so, if you want to travel on the train, you need to be on the platform in good time for your service and may need to be patient and wait for the next train.
