7820 departs Winchcombe with a freight during the 2016 Cotswold Festival of Steam - the 'Queen Mary' is next to the tender - you could be on it!

Brake van rides!

The GWSR is once again able to field a freight train which will make two return trips between Toddington and Cheltenham each day of the event.

The magnificent 'Queen Mary'

You could ride on this train for only £10 for a ten-mile one-way journey between Toddington and Cheltenham or vice-versa, taking in the haunted (!) Greet Tunnel on the way.  The brake van is ex-SR 'Queen Mary' bogie goods brake no. 56305, which has been restored to its SR umber livery with red ends.  Astonishingly, as the restoration work was undertaken a steel panel was removed from each side of the brake van to reveal the original sound timber complete with the 'SR' legend clearly visible, which has been faithfully reproduced.

Tickets for the brake van rides will be sold at the departing station booking office on a first-come first-served basis and cost must £10 per passenger. All passengers must be over 16 and able-bodied as the ride is not appropriate for the infirm or mobility impaired.  Note, the brake van is at the south end of the train.  The brake at the other end is not suitable for carrying passengers.  Please note that if you have companions they will not be able to ride with you on the train unless they have a brake van ride ticket.

Freight train departures are:

from Toddington: 11.00 and 13.30

from Cheltenham Racecourse: 11.48 and 14.18
