After 58 years public train services will again run to Broadway Station! Thanks to the tireless work of our volunteers over many years we are delighted to open a further stretch of our line so you will be able to travel over 14 miles from the historic village of Broadway all the way to our Race Course Station at the town of Cheltenham.
Stop press: We have put in place an additional train service for this period which departs from Cheltenham. We now have trains starting their journeys from both Broadway and Cheltenham at 0940hrs, plus a third train starting from Toddington at 1100hrs.
Over these 4 special days we will be running an intensive timetable with hourly departures from Cheltenham and Broadway. Trains will not be calling at Gotherington or Hayles Abbey Halt during this period. You can download the timetable from here.
To add to your enjoyment on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday, we are pleased to announce that most of our steam and diesel owners groups and the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway Trust will have stalls in our brand new Tim Mitchell building on platform 1 at Winchcombe Station. The model railway and our Discovery Coach will be also open at Winchcombe station and the Narrow Gauge Railway and shop will be open at Toddington station from Good Friday through to Easter Monday. Make sure you fit in time during the day to get off at these intermediate stations to have a look before catching a later train.
Please note although you'll be able to buy tickets on the day at our station booking offices, we strongly recommend that you buy the special tickets online to avoid long queues at the booking offices. However, the demand for tickets on Good Friday has exceeded all expectations and as a result no more advance sales can now be made for Fri 30 March. There will however be tickets available on the day at our booking offices but in view of the interest being shown in the opening of our extension, we may have to limit these sales as the day progresses. We are adding extra carriages and providing extra trains, but cannot guarantee seats will be available, and having a ticket does not guarantee a seat on the train. We strongly encourage everyone who has already purchased tickets for Good Friday to arrive early for their train.
At present, we don't see any problems over the rest of the Easter weekend and advance tickets can still be purchased for these days. We always encourage visitors to come to our volunteer-run railway and we are only having to limit advance sales on Good Friday for safety reasons.
Shareholders' and Members' ticket vouchers, standard online in advance All Day Rover tickets together with all other concession tickets and passes will not be valid for travel between 30 March and 2 April inclusive. Similarly, there will be no group-travel discounts over this period. Only registered lineside pass holders are allowed trackside.
THERE WILL BE NO GENERAL PUBLIC PARKING AT BROADWAY STATION ITSELF. The nearest car park is a pay and display 10 minutes walk away.
The only tickets being sold on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday will be special all day "rover tickets". Our full range of tickets will then become available from Easter Monday onwards.
Please arrive early for your chosen train.
Toddington and Cheltenham Race Course
We are looking forward to a large number of visitors over the Easter weekend and therefore you may prefer to join the train at Toddington station where there is a large car park and overflow field, or at Cheltenham Racecourse where there is plenty of free car parking available. You can find detailed maps of our stations' locations here.
Hot Food to be available at Cheltenham Race Course Station
To mark this special occasion the GWSR Griddle will be located at Cheltenham Race Course Station from 9.00am until 2.30pm. Home made soup and hot food will be available to be purchased there each day in addition to our usual food outlets at Winchcombe station Coffee Port Tea Room and Toddington station Flag and Whistle Cafe/Restaurant.
There is currently no parking at Broadway Station – the nearest car park is the Milestone Ground car park in the Childswickham Road - a pay and display - some 10 minutes walk from the station.
We have however arranged for a complimentary classic Routemaster bus to run between the centre of the village and the station every 20 minutes. The first bus will depart from the War Memorial (close to the High Street car park) in the centre of the village at 09:00, and from the Milestone Ground car park in the Childswickham Road at 09:05. The bus will arrive at the station 5 minutes later and repeat the journey every 20 minutes throughout the day. This will give every visitor, whether joining the train at Broadway or one of our other stations, an opportunity to savour the delights of this Cotswolds village. (Please note we can’t accept any liability for this service)
There are extremely limited accessible facilities and parking at Broadway Station, and we do encourage all disabled visitors to park at Toddington Station.
Making it Happen
The efforts of our volunteers would not have been possible without the generous donations and share purchases you, the public, have made over the years. We still rely on donations and share sales to help us expand and improve our facilities. Find out more about shares or donations by clicking on the links.
