A packed timetable for the Cotswold Festival of Steam has now been published - ranging from light-engine workings to an evening round trip on Saturday night. An 8-coach top-and-tail evening train on Saturday departs Toddington at 18:50 and returns to Toddington at 20:25.
The railway expects to field eight locomotives in steam and you can find out what locomotives you can expect to see. The locomotive allocations will be different on each day, providing the maximum variety and opportunities for both travel and photography.
There are attactions at all stations and something you are unlikely to easily find anywhere else, is the opportunity to 'have a go' on a pump trolley. Over the weekend you can alight at Gotherington (make sure you are in one of the train's front two coaches) where the station and gardens are being opened by its private owner. There is a fascinating range of railway artefacts you can see, not least of which is the private siding with its remarkable award-winning 'Gotherington West' Great Western Railway timber platform halt complete with Pagoda corrugated-iron waiting shelter.
It's on this siding that you will find the 0-4-0PP (Person Power) pump trolley which is a great experience - operational and safety instruction will be provided. And after the effort you could enjoy home-made cakes and refreshments in the orignal station building.
