There is something rather special going on at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway (GWSR) this weekend (13-15 June) - the Real Ale and Steam Festival, organised in conjunction with the North Cotswolds branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CaMRA).
entred on Winchcombe and Toddington stations, there will be some 45 different beers, as well as ciders, on offer with a real West Country theme. Apart from the range of excellent beers being produced in Gloucestershire, there will be offerings from Bristol, Bruntrock, Exmoor, Exeter, Padstow, Salcombe, Tintagel, Verdant and Wiper & True.
The event takes place on Friday and Saturday, 13th and 14th June as well as Sunday 15th June, when remaining beers will be on offer. The bars at Toddington will be open between 10.30 and 18.15 and at Winchcombe between 10.30 and 18.30. On Sunday, the bars will be open between 11:00 and 15.00, or until the beer runs out, whichever comes first.
Entry is free with a train ticket (£5 entry without a train ticket). Cards are then bought in multiples of £10 with a glass (to keep) costing £2.
The last train back to Cheltenham Racecourse is 18.15 (from Toddington) and 18.27 (from Winchcombe) on Friday and Saturday. An intensive train service operates on both days with both steam and heritage diesel services in operation. The normal Pink timetable operates on Sunday. Full information at www.gwsr.com
Travel to both stations is easy from Cheltenham Racecourse (free parking) or from Broadway. Please note, that the Evesham Road between Cheltenham Racecourse and Bishops Cleeve is closed for work on the new cycleway and bridge strengthening, so parking at Cheltenham Racecourse is the best option (the station is reached through the main Racecourse entrance - follow signs to the Racecourse).
