'John' has been on the Railway for over 30 years. The loco is presently undergoing restoration including the construction of a virtually new boiler.

  • Purpose: Industrial shunter. This loco spent all of its working life at Thorsby Colliery from where it was retired and sent for scrap. It was rescued in 1981 and came to the GWSR where, after a 3½ year restoration, it became the mainstay of the Railway's passenger operations until replaced by larger locomotives as the line grew longer.
